Specialized’s gen 4 Turbo Levo Vs. the Amflow PL Carbon with the DJI Avinox motor – it’s the gunfight you’ve all been waiting for! Of course, we had to get the two bikes out together as soon as we got hold of the new Turbo Levo, and while this isn’t a intended to be a definitive test of the two bikes, it did give us the chance to highlight the pros and cons of the two hottest e-bikes on the market right now.

Furthermore, we have the Specialized Turbo Levo Pro model, which has the detuned motor, reflecting the level of power most of the riders buying Turbo Levos will experience. Only the S-Works model gets the full 720Wh and 111Nm, but it costs £12,500! That’s two Amflow PL Carbons! And it still can’t match the power and torque of the DJI motor with its 850W and 105Nm (rising to 1,000w and 120Nm in Boost mode in limited bursts).

So in terms of power and torque, the Amflow has the Specialized licked, but there are a lot of features that bring the Turbo Levo back in the game. Such as adjustable geometry, removable battery, Genie shock with tuneable dual rate spring curve, five frame sizes instead of four, and internal frame storage.
Specialized also offers a range extender, something DJI doesn’t currently have, and you can power the Levo from the 280Wh battery alone. This instantly drops over 2.5kg from the bike, and gives the power and handling of an SL e-bike.
Then there’s the lifetime bearing warranty, the replacement warranty on the carbon wheels, and the superb waterproofing of the electronics. There’s a lot more to the Levo than meets the eye.
Price-wise, Specialized offers the Comp model in the UK for £6,799, which is a bit more expensive than the Amflow PL Carbon ridden here, but the Specialized gets wireless shifting, Maven brakes, a piggy-back shock, and DH casing tyres, so the value is pretty similar.
Obviously the Amflow is ridiculously fast, faster than the Specialized, and also extremely capable, but the Levo is not out of the game yet. For us, this is just the start of a rigorous process of testing the new Turbo Levo, starting with a range test to find out how far it’ll go on the 840Wh battery in Turbo mode, Then we’ll really go to town trying the different geo settings and tuning the suspension to see if we can make it ride and handle better than the Amflow. Because speed isn’t anything without control.
