Presented in 1978, the Compu Rhythm CR-78 is by far, one of the best sounding analog rhythm machines ever created.

The CR-78 came with 34 built in preset rhythm patterns (Rock, Disco, Waltz, Shuffle, Slow Rock, Swing, etc...)
Even if its program capabilities were poor and rudimentary, the groove of its included rhythms and the pure rawness of its sound made it a classic used by iconic musicians from very different genres (think of Phill Collins, Fatboy Slim, Blondie, etc...)

The CR-78 offers very electronic yet analog drum tones.
Kick, Snare, Rim, Cow Bell, HiHats, Cymbals, Congas, Bongos, Tambourine and Guiro. With variation presets and the ability to adjust Tempo, accents, and fade in/outs the CR-78 is still capable of producing nice rhythms to use in any musical context.

The CR-78 is our preferred drum-dedicated vintage machine, and this is our homage in form of a sound pack!

We have obviously maintained our “raw” philosophy by carefully sampling the drum machine through top class preamps (Neve 1073 to UA2192 converters). No further compression or processing at first. But… Since this machine is limited in sound possibilities, we decided to re-pitch, filter, tape saturate and layer them to offer a more diverse and playable sample pack.

Besides the one shot samples we have decided to also include the built-in rhythm loops.
When listening to the machine at different tempos we noticed that the grooves were slightly different.
Setting the CR-78 to play at 90bpm gave us a different feeling than playing it at 120bpm. Sampling a loop at 90bpm and speeding it up digitally to 120bpm wasn't giving the same feel of the original machine.

So we decided to sample 105 clean loops at 90bpm and also at 124bpm. Giving you loops for fast (electronic) and slow (funky) songs.
Not happy we that we decided to add some heat by recording the loops into our tape recorder. Finally, we sampled them again using the Sub 37 filter to create super distorted but extremely musical loops.
