ADX Indicator:
The Average Directional Index (ADX), developed by J. Welles Wilder, is a technical analysis tool that measures the strength of a trend in the market. Unlike other indicators that show direction (up or down), ADX tells us how strong the current trend is — whether it’s bullish or bearish. It is widely used by traders to identify trending markets, avoid sideways conditions, and confirm breakout signals.
ADX Indicator Explained:
What is ADX?
The Average Directional Index (ADX) is a technical indicator developed by J. Welles Wilder.
• It measures the strength of a trend (not its direction).
• The value ranges from 0 to 100.
• Traders use it to identify whether the market is trending strongly or just moving sideways.
Components of ADX
• +DI (Positive Directional Indicator): Measures bullish (upward) strength.
• –DI (Negative Directional Indicator): Measures bearish (downward) strength.
• ADX line
ADX Value Interpretation
• 0 – 20 : Weak trend / sideways market.
• 20 – 40 : Moderate trend.
• 40 – 60 : Strong trend.
• 60 – 100 : Very strong trend (rare).

How Traders use ADX Indicator:
1. Identify Trend Strength
2. Confirm Trend Direction with +DI and –DI
3. Spot Trend Strengthening or Weakening
4. Avoid False Breakouts
5. Combine with Other Indicators

ADX Indicator Strategy:
Entry Rules
Long Position (Buy):
• Candle closes above the Open Range High (ORH).
• Candle is also above the Supertrend (10,2).
• ADX is greater than 25 at the time of breakout (trend strength confirmed).
✅ If all three conditions match → Enter Buy Trade.
Short Position (Sell):
• Candle closes below the Open Range Low (ORL).
• Candle is also below the Supertrend (10,2).
• ADX is greater than 25 at the time of breakdown.
✅ If all three conditions match → Enter Sell Trade.
Stop-Loss / Exit Rules
• For Longs → Stop-loss below ORL or Supertrend line (whichever is tighter).
• For Shorts → Stop-loss above ORH or Supertrend line.

How to add ADX Indicator in TradingView:
1. Open TradingView
Go to tradingview.com and open your desired chart.
2. Click on Indicators
At the top of the chart window, click on “Indicators” (or press / shortcut).
3. Search for ADX
In the search bar, type “ADX” or “Average Directional Index”.
4. Select the Built-in Indicator
Choose “Average Directional Index” under the Built-ins section.
5. Customize Settings
• Default length is usually 14 (Wilder’s ADX).
• You can change the length, style, and colors under the Settings (⚙️) option.
• By default, you’ll see ADX line, +DI (green), and -DI (red).
6. Apply and Use
Once applied, the ADX will appear below your chart in a separate pane.
