I built a 24 inch foamboard version of Bruce Kimball's Hoosier Daddy DLG renamed by Jim Buxton as Hoosier Baby Daddy. I show some of the construction that I used along with 14 and 22 second flights of my, now, beat up glider. (flight video at 4:45)
I found the plans for this in the Sept-Oct 2020 issue of Free Flight magazine but a PDF can be downloaded from the www.discuskids.org site. Free Flight magazine is available with membership to the National Free Flight Society (www.freeflight.org).
I plan to make a Balsawood wing for this which should allow full discus launch heights. I am a noob as far as such launches are concerned and I'm not certain the foam wing would withstand such a launch. I am easily able to get 30-40 foot high tip launches, however. Cost? About $5-7 of materials.
I plan to add a prop and functional 8520 electric motor with a 10 Farad Capacitor to this model in the future after I make the Balsa version. Capacitor powered flight provides performance similar to Rubber power thus places less stress on the foam wings.
