2022 was a fantastic year for railfanning. While the second half of the year was relatively lackluster, especially with my new schedule getting in the way of a couple trains, there was still lots of great catches.
The first train of the year was 2 CN heritage units on a Q train, along with an ex-CREX ES44 in the middle. February was also off to a strong start with a B32-8WH on the Hiawatha.
February came to a nice end with the first daylight run of the all new ALC-42 locomotives coming into service.
June was definitely one of the most memorable months of the year. A friend and I took an 8 day road trip out to the Santa Fe semaphores in New Mexico, stopping at many places to railfan along the way. On our way back, we took a quick stop at the KYLE to see if anything was happening, and we lucked out by getting a Utah Railway MK50-3 leading into a perfect sunset.
The East Troy Electric Railroad finished restoring another car for their collection. CTA 4439 made its first run for the museum in August.
Towards the end of the year, I ended up doing quite a bit of night/low light railfanning, along with catching the CP holiday train for the first time since 2019. Enjoy!
