Listen to these #chanténwèl from the #Antilles
those enchanted nights when we wandered from house to house,
gently waking our neighbors so that no one would remain alone.

There was no stage and no audience,
only a people moving through the streets as one,
singing, calling out, weaving voices into doorways and hearts along the way.

"The 'sèbi" lanterns lighting our steps,
children making bamboo cannons thunder,
shrub brewed from orange peels macerated since Carnival,
liqueurs of coconut, pistachio, mandarin, banana…
Boudin, savory pastries, shared hands and shared laughter."

And above all, those voices rising together,
"into the night, from the soft "ti-bwinaj"
to the "pipiri" greeting the dawn.”

It was the time of "true togetherness",
long before “living together” became a phrase—
when it was simply a way of being.

Ecoutez ces #chanténwèl des #Antilles, ces nuits magiques où l'on marchait de maison en maison, réveillant les voisins pour que personne ne reste seul.
Il ne s'agissait pas d'un groupe et d'un public mais d'une population qui marchait dans la rue en chantant et interpellait les voisins chemin faisant.

"Les "sèbi" qui éclairaient les pas, le bambou-canon que faisaient résonner les enfants, le shrub aux pelures d'orange macérées depuis le carnaval, la liqueur de coco, de pistache, de mandarine, de banane… Le boudin, les pâtés... "

Et surtout, ces voix qui s'élevaient ensemble "dans la nuit, du ti-bwinaj jusqu'au pipiri chantant."
C'était le temps du Vivre ensemble avant le vivre ensemble.
