Recently, while recording a couple of guest appearances for the
Word Of Life television program, I had a chance to visit with my younger
brother Ron and his lovely and talented wife Christine. Ron
confided to me that Christine was really excited about doing an
album. So when she was performing her solos for television, I, of course,
listened very carefully. Frankly, I got really “turned on” when I heard her refreshingly
different “country folk” sound. At my urging she agreed to send me a demo tape here
at Singspiration/Singcord. Several of the key executives listened to it without knowing that
Christine was my sister-in-law and they were “knocked-out.”
Listening to Christine perform in the recording
studio was like viewing a rare jewel under a microscope. 1 had ^B ^B
heard her playing piano and organ for Word Of Life since the time 1 | I
she was fourteen years old and I must admit, however, that I ^B JM jj^ IBjj
did not realize until that moment in the studio the depth «B
and brilliance of her talent.
Because of the miracle of electronic multi-track recording,
Christine had 24 independent tracks available and this enabled her to
utilize her many and varied gifts. She did her own arranging and played all
the keyboard instruments, flute and even tambourine herself. She performed all the
vocal backgrounds with her own voice and then of course, when that was all
done she sang the solos. 1 cajoled her into letting me write the string parts
because I wanted to, otherwise that would have been no obstacle for her and I
wouldn’t have had anything left to do but be there to encourage and support.
When Christine sings on radio and television, in concerts and rallies,
the response is always the same. Young people come up to her and say, “We didn’t
know Christian music could sound like this!” But of more significance perhaps, is what
Christine said to me: “I really feel Christian teens and young adults are starving musically,
and I pray that this album will become a pioneer in meeting that need — that kids will
be fed spiritually and musically as well.”
I hope that you will be compelled not only to buy this record but to really get into it
as well. You are guaranteed a rich and rewarding experience if you do.
