This is my story following the diagnosis and death of my elder brother Jase with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia), a very rare and aggressive form of blood cancer in 2023.
Jase was diagnosed in May 2022 and following 19 doses of chemo, over 24 blood transfusions, a bone marrow transplant and transitioning into remission in April 2023, the cancer returned and he passed away on the 17th of September 2023 aged 53.
Jase was a very healthy and fit person. Ran a very successful plumbing business and gave so much to his community. During Jase's battle with AML, he set up a Lifeblood group through the Australian Red Cross and set a target of 1000 donations. 3 days before he passed, he achieved that amazing milestone. Those blood donations have helped over 5,000 people and saved many lives.
This is the story of my brother Jase and the heartache of not only losing a brother but the challenge of now accepting that he is no longer with us.
