Incredible all around. The aerial stunts are the best ever committed to film, period, the visual effects are astounding, and Jean Harlow's supporting performance rightfully shot her to the top of the Hollywood A-list. Aviation expert Howard Hughes personally directed this feature alongside an uncredited James Whale. Originally shot in 1927 as a silent feature, much of the film was scrapped and reshot for sound with some new cast members for a final budget of $4 million, an astronomical sum at the time of filming, and $50.4 million in today's money. In 1965, when Stanley Kubrick was asked to rank his ten favorite films, this was one of them.
Credit due to / legendofpanchobarnes for the only place I could find this trailer. This is reconstructed from the 2004 DVD, LegendofPanchoBarnes' upload of the trailer, and a clip of the trailer from a making-of on Brian DePalma's "Scarface" of all things. The re-release happened in 1979, where it came out alongside a re-release of the Howard Hughes-produced original 1932 "Scarface".
