Taxpayers in the UK spent £1.7 million last year on fixing botched cosmetic surgeries carried out abroad, with one case costing the NHS £100,000.
A surge in cheap flights and package deals has made Turkey a popular destination for Brits seeking cosmetic surgeries. However, British cosmetic surgeons are accusing their Turkish counterparts of using the NHS as a taxpayer-funded safety net for poor aftercare.
Two individuals who underwent surgeries in Turkey shared their contrasting experiences. One suffered from severe complications, while the other had a successful procedure. The debate raises questions about who should be responsible for the costs of these surgeries and the need for more regulation in the industry.
Sara Platt underwent weight loss surgery in Turkey after extensive research. Unfortunately, the surgery went terribly wrong. The surgeon operated on her while she was awake, causing her significant trauma and leaving her with numerous complications.
In contrast to Platt's traumatic experience, Dynzell Sigers had a successful leg lengthening surgery in Turkey. Sigers had initially planned to undergo the procedure in the US but found a reputable rehabilitation centre in Turkey that offered the surgery at a lower cost. He flew to Turkey and underwent two surgeries, one for his upper legs and another for his lower legs.
