Most people haven’t enjoyed the slow love of a pet turtle. There’s a difference between speed and devotion. Now the Turtle Lady Tells all. Eunice Brauer is the Turtle Lady and her neighbors in Aurora, Colorado have gotten used to seeing her walking a tortoise down the sidewalk. She and her kids have allergies so furry pets were out of the question. Once day they were at the “Dime Store” … you remember them. They found tiny turtles, three for $1.00. That was the beginning of a growing herd of 90 turtles. I was surprised to learn that turtles are popular pets. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, more than 2 million people in the US own turtles. The AVMA says that the reptiles have a special style of devotion. They recognize their owners, are curious, will eat from your hand and form emotional bonds. Just don’t expect them to roll over or play fetch the stick.
