Also known as a Lunatic No-Miss, No-Bomb, No-Border Break clear, or LNNN for short.

Historically a perfect clear of this game was very rough because of a single defining moment.
At the start of stage 6 there is a section where the game just throws all sense out of the window and throws an absolutely unreasonable amount of random bullet vomit at you. It's a huge wall and one of the hardest and most luck-based sections in the series. Trying for a perfect clear was daunting because you always had this slot machine of the pattern near the end.
But what if you could devise a strategy to skip it...?
What if you could somehow... get a full power cancel all the way there...?

Probably the reason nobody thought of this sooner was because it seemed it couldn't be done or that it wouldn't be worth it. There are so many power items and borders that autocollect items, it just seemed unavoidable to not reach max power early, and not being at max power also carried its own set of complications with it. But the potential was huge.

This strategy is easily the single greatest thing to ever come out of Touhou.
The magnum opus of the community and a huge break-through for the survival category of this game. All the extra game-long planning and hoops to jump through just to make the stage 6 spam a little bit easier, the levels of galaxy brain are just off the charts, it's exquisite. I love it so much I wanted to do it myself.

Besides being really funny this strategy also adds several extra layers of engagement, which makes the game a lot more fun to grind to what would otherwise be rather boring stages.
Items basically turn into revenge bullets and having to constantly manage your Cherry makes it almost feel like you're playing for score. It gives a ton more depth to the run and gives the player a lot more to do. Imagine having to actually use the individual mechanics of a Touhou game in a survival run.

People doing full-game perfect runs nowadays is still so wild to me.
Back in the day something like this was just completely unheard of, now over 370 people have done one of these. With some even having over a hundred of these on their name alone. PCB is a very nostalgic game for me. It's the game that first got me into shmups back in 2009 and I couldn't even beat Normal with all continues back then. So being able to pull this off now is very satisfying.
Trying to determine how long this took is a bit hard. I obviously played this a lot between 2009 and 2012 but I'm not sure how much of that still counts. In 2022 I put in about 30 hours when I first attempted this, but this recent derust only took about 17 hours, which is kinda shocking to me.

Played this on a rotated VGA CRT at 120hz, it was pretty sweet. The Tate mods that make this happen are definitely the definitive way of playing Touhou in my opinion, they really need to make ones for Touhou 17 and beyond.
