DUAL SCREEN for Porsche Macan, a MUST Do DIY Upgrade

🚗 Restomodded My Porsche Macan with a Dual-Screen Android Display with CarPlay

Warning: This screen almost cost me $1,000 in damages! But I managed to pull it off. 😅

I break down the costs at the end of the video — don’t miss it!

📖 TL;DR:

I was sick and tired of my Macan’s arcade screen. It’s a 2017 Macan S—besides the sluggish nature of this car, the screen bothers me the most!

After some research, I found the standard Android displays that everyone upgrades to. Nice, but no WOW factor.

So, I dug deeper and found a random vendor in China:

Ordering:
After the purchase, they immediately emailed me and asked about the type of car and a picture of interior to find out the compatibility as well the exact type so they can send the parts.

Got them within a week from China directly as they promised.

Simple, really small number parts, not intimidating at all,

Instructions:
Nonexistent!
I was by my own, there a few other YouTube videos who have done an elaborate job. So I rolled my sleeves, asked my dad for help we got started

Tools Needed:

Philips and star Screwdriver,
Microfiber tower
A special L shaped tool to remove the vent. Don’t start without this, I bent a screw rod and made one, either 3d print something or bend a screw rod like me. See the picture and video

Removing the OEM Dash:
I destroyed a vent to figure out how to make this happen. The left vent was gone, then I directed and figured I need to build a tool. This is the L shape too that I made by bending the tail end of a screw rod. The rest very intuitive , pull things out, and, unscrew things and remove

Unplugging the old dash:
Super easy, take tons of pictures incase you wanted to install the other one back. save things .

Wiring the Dual Screen :
This part took the longest, Follow my long video on Youtube, basically most of the connectors can only fit in one slot, so use your common sense and use things that fit right into the it’s on shape.
It gets confusing for the 4G, GPS, and the data cable,
I didn’t install 4G since I didn’t plan to use 4G.
The Dual Display has its own GPS antenna, so you have wire things outside of the dash , not ideal. I got creative and bought the connector to use the cars OEM antenna using this cable:
Then use the blue end and connect it to the blue one in the car

Microphone : The dual display came with a super cheap $2 microphone, with horrible quality, so after using it for a week and I was very disappointed , I ordered a TRS, $40 from Amazon. It’s better but it’s not great. I bought a $70 Shure at first but it wasn’t compatible with the existing Jack, I am still working on this and hopefully will upgrade it .

Packing the wires into the dash and Installing the new duct for the new vent:
This part goes hand in hand, use your intuitions,
Tip: Use masking tape to secure the connections, also wrap everything to make the compact, the space is very tight
Do not install the new vent at this stage. It should go last
Putting the new Trim back:
Very easy and intuitive, make sense of it first then start installation

Install the new Vent:
Use the brackets in the box, install , and place the vent back in.

Thoughts after using it for 1 months:
It absently fucking worth it , even the 2024 models don’t have this. Anyone who sits in the car gets enamored of it.
The android works like a charm, I installed YouTube, instagram, WhatsApp, it’s amazing,
Every time I sit in my car, I connect it to internet using Hotspot, Youtube rocks while drink
The android App is a bit Chinese developed !! Need fines and can be improved but not sure if these guys will do it. I wish the software was developed by people who drive this car daily, the UX could be way better and some cool features could be developed,


Next:
I am still looking for a way to use the Macan’s OEM microphone or use the Shure microphone. Not happy with the sound quality
The fake leather on the new trim is cheap and getting damaged to fast, going to a local car upholstery to see if I can use a better leather, or turn into carbon fiber.
Still debating whether to spend $20 per month a 4G SIM card or not.
