Can an all-electric b-double loaded with steel coils—measuring approximately 68 tonnes—conquer the tricky climb up Mount Ousley, which is regarded as one of the most difficult gradients for trucks in Australia? Every day, our steel products are transported along this route from our Port Kembla Steelworks, leaving the City of Wollongong for delivery and further processing at various sites in Sydney and beyond. In this video, we showcase our collaborative trial with Windrose Technology and Toll Group, which is set to make that uphill challenge a thing of the past and contribute to more sustainable, lower-emission freight across the country.
We thank the following participants for giving their time on camera, explaining the intention of this significant trial and the overall digital innovation and specifications of the Windrose All-electric Prime Mover: Bo Christensen (Global Fleet Sustainability Manager at Toll), Chris Brooks (Contracts Manager Road and Logistics at BlueScope) and James Walmsley (Director of Business Development at Windrose). Furthermore, we acknowledge the work of truck drivers and teams at all three companies to make this happen and bring the story together.
