Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido 無双直伝英信流 居合道
The sixth technique, Tanashita, is performed when you are in a low space, such as under a shelf, and have identified an opponent in front of you. While keeping your body low, you draw the sword, making sure not to touch any obstacles, then raise the sword to jōdan (high guard) and exhale deeply as you cut down.
In this situation, you must be able to clearly express the state of the opponent's actions and the environment. The execution of movements must adapt to the situation, and it is important to understand this process clearly.
Even in this type of situation, you must observe the opponent’s actions carefully, one by one, before moving to the next action. You must shrink your body and ensure that the sword does not touch the ceiling as you draw and cut. To achieve this, step forward with your right foot, drawing the sword with your body.
The grip must be firm, with both hands perfectly aligned on the sword to draw it smoothly.
By placing your hands on the tsuka (handle) and observing the opponent, when the time comes, you raise the sword and make a large, decisive cut downward.
