The story describes an incident from Lord Krishna’s childhood. One day, he and his friends were playing ball near the banks of the Yamuna river. While they were playing, all of a sudden the ball was thrown into the tainted waters of the Yamuna. Krishna decides to leap into the water, while his friends warn him of the dreadful serpent living in the river. But Krishna ignores their warnings and dives into the water to retrieve the ball. He then encounters Kalinga, the evil serpent, and engages in a fight. Finally, Krishna ties him down and teaches a lesson, humbling the snake not to harm his friends. At the end, playful Krishna joyfully dances on Kalinga’s head, stomping “ta thaam and thom thom,” and is admired as the beautiful and playful one who saved the village and brought protection.
