This week on Finnish Photo Fridays (I swear I will post on Friday eventually), we're taking a look at a single, powerful image from August, 1941. This rare photograph captures Finnish soldiers atop a captured Soviet T-26 Mod. 1931 tank during the early phases of the Continuation War. But look closer, and you'll see a hidden detail: a Finnish soldier with a m/95 Nagant revolver, captured from the Soviet Union Red Army and now being used against its former owners. Join us as we dissect every detail of this incredible snapshot, from the captured armor to the sidearms that tell their own story.
For an even deeper dive into Finnish firearms, grab a copy of my book, "Finnish Mosin-Nagant: Three-Line Rifle to Ukko Pekka." It's the best English-language source available. You'll find a detailed section on m/95 Nagant revolvers in Finnish service in Chapter 16: War Booty, White Elephants, Imported Weaponry, on pages 412-415.
