Had a WNL Tier 1 competition at the Dexterity Depot today. As probably everyone knows it is my new mission to hit a buzzer at my home gym at a tier 1 competition as our gym is one of the hardest in the northeast. To defuse the anticipation a little today was not it. 😔 That doesn’t take away from the fact that I learned a lot of valuable lessons today. 1) Do not eat a pound of meat less than 3 hours before you go. You will still be stuffed as protein keeps you full longer. 2) If it’s been 6 weeks since your last major cardio workout, you’re gonna not make a 12-obstacle course in under 4 minutes. Good, that one was on my schedule, not on me. There just wasn’t enough time for conditioning. Christmas time is crazy with like 12 jobs and I’m already disciplined cramming exercise in at every possibility. If you watch my stories you know. 3) Don’t wait until your current ninja shoes are almost completely blank before you order new ninja shoes. 1 and 3 are easily fixed. For 2 I need to do some major planning. My cardio literally needs worked on every week with a body that still heals from asthma and all kinds of other crap, or I’m gonna regret it if I just slack a few days. Noted. What did I think would be easy? Obstacle 1, balance stuff to warped wall to bar and onto the box. What did I think would be hard? The what I thought was a trapeze up to a bar laches, but it actually was a trapeze to dismount pad. And because I didn’t know that until about 20 seconds before I ran I had a squeezy stomach on top of crappy cardio that added up to a pound of meat 2 hours before my run. But cardio wasn’t the only issue, it was legit fear, too, because once I got past the laches I was doing the other stuff a little more efficient with less stomach issues. I thought the ascending cliffhangers were hard, too. I was spot on. What am I especially proud off? The fact that I got that dismount from the trapeze with only a pull back and one swing back. Not sure what all the initial fear fuzz was about 😂 And looking at the video that was so powerful I almost overshot that line by a foot. That was a pretty good distance. I can’t remember if my eyes were closed. I think I actually had them open. I’m also proud of the fact that I did both of the leaps, the one from the warped wall to the box and from the box to the wall fairly quickly for my abilities. I’m usually more hesitant and a lot slower than that. Even the swing from the rope to the next cliffhanger was very efficient. And one thing that irks me, this is where number 3 comes in. I could have saved that dismount where I was overshooting onto the next obstacle, but my sneaker slipped off the bar, cause it was almost blank. You can actually see it, if you play the video in slow motion. My foot hits the bar and then just slips. My new Series One ninja shoes are in the mail as I’m writing (ordered them Tuesday), so hopefully this won’t happen again. I know this sounds like an excuse, but it’s really not. I’m amazing at balance and my foot was correctly placed on the bar. My sneaker just slipped off. Another proud fact… I’ve been working on one-arm pull ups and my original goal was to get them by the end of the year. I don’t think I can quite keep that time line. It will probably be more like February-ish… BUT I was able to do the ascending cliffhangers in redemption with my “training one-arm pull ups”. I was never able to do an obstacle like that before. What that is is you do a one-arm pull up, but your second arm holds onto your pulling arm, just below the wrist. And as you get better you lower that hand towards the elbow. The two videos are the 2nd and the third try. On my first try I actually made it fully to that salmon ladder bar. But then I didn’t have enough strength left to do that in the videos. This is COOL, y’all. I’m SOOOO close to an actual one-arm pull up. Thanks for coaching to Zach! Thanks for filming to Fred-Jen Seiferth! Thanks for hosting to the Depot! And that was an awesome course, Matt!!! Congratulations to Jennifer Naugle Bryant for first and an almost buzzer and to Sandy Sanders for 2nd! Amazing runs, ladies!
