The NEW Tilt Table Knife Bevel Grinding Jig

The NEW Tilt Table knife makers Bevel Grinding Jig or tool rest was designed by Jason Northgard and Dan Berg. The jig was designed to be adaptable so it can fit a variety of 2x72 grinders. As long as the grinder accepts a 1 1/2" square tool arm the table should fit. The table adjusts up and down, left to right for centering on the platen, and pivots for desired bevel angle. Adjustments can also be made to square the table up to the grinders platen. The bracket was designed to bolt onto a standard OBM 1 1/2' tool arm which is sold separately.

Using the tilt table is probably the closest to free grinding a knife maker can get while still having the angle support of a jig. All the knife makers have to do is to scribe center lines on the edge of the blade and then place the knife blank onto the table. While keeping the blade flat against the table move the blade up until it is in contact with the belt. Then start grinding while carefully keeping an eye on the center line scribe being careful not to grind past the scribed line. It is that simple. A coarse grit belt is recommended for rough grinding then a finer grit belt or a scotch bright belt can be used to polish the bevels.

Aside from the investment in a quality 2x72 grinder, this bevel grinding tool rest can be responsible for improving the quality of a knife makers bevels greatly. The Tilt Table can be used on both flat platens and 10" large wheels for hollow grinds.

Please note the Tilt Table does require assembly and the back edge of the belt slot will need to be ground down to allow the sanding belt to have clearance while pivoting the tilt table. Please understand we can not guarantee that this table will fit the specific measurements of every grinder. On receipt please bolt it together and make sure the belt grove can be positioned to fit the platen or big wheel of your machine. Only when the fit is confirmed should you grind away the back edge of the belt groove. The Tilt Table can be returned for a complete refund minus shipping cost, as long as it is unmodified and in its original condition.
