Hakone Was Magical... Until the Rain Hit 🌧️

Join me on a magical trip to Hakone, Japan, where nature, tradition, and adventure come together in the most unforgettable way. We stayed at the beautiful Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora. We got incredibly lucky with clear weather for visiting the Hakone Open Air Museum—absolutely breathtaking and easily one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had!

The next day, the rain set in and visibility disappeared, but we embraced the moment. With the Hakone Free Pass, we explored it all: ropeways gliding through misty mountains, pirate ships cruising across Lake Ashi, local buses, and scenic trains. Even in the rain, Hakone had a unique charm.

We queued for nearly an hour to snap that iconic photo at the Heiwa no Torii gate beside Hakone Shrine, and yes—we ate the legendary black egg (Kurotamago) at Owakudani, said to add 7 years to your life!

After 5 PM, Hakone quiets down completely—but we made the most of it with a delicious dinner and a soothing onsen bath back at the hotel. The free shuttle bus from the hotel made everything seamless.

This was a trip of contrasts—sunshine and fog, serenity and adventure—and it left me wanting to return again soon.
