Yoda narrows his eyes as he reviews the latest progress made by Anakin in his recent training. It has been a month since the boy arrived here in the Jedi Temple, and there are still many who have misgivings about having him here in the first place.

He will be lying if he said he wasn’t one of them, and these reviews are not doing any favors. Although he is eager and shows a willingness to learn, there are still many issues regarding his behavior.

Anakin is hot-headed, prone to outbursts of emotion, and struggles to adapt to the rigid discipline of the Jedi Temple. There are even some who report that Anakin has gotten into fights with some of the other younglings. Even his time as a slave was not as controlling as this, since Watto generally gave him much freedom. Even now, some of his teachers report that Anakin often daydreams and struggles to maintain the solemn atmosphere of this temple

The most unkind say that the boy might not fully appreciate the opportunity being granted to him. While Yoda would not go that far, he is not impressed by the progress the boy is making and considers whether he can truly become a Jedi in the long term.

It was only because of Qui-Gon that the boy was admitted, but now there are many who suggest dropping him. They have honored his memory by giving him a chance, but they do not owe him any more than that.

Yoda is inclined to agree, but the thought of sending the boy away is not something that appeals to him. Where would they even send him if they did? His mother remains a slave, and he has no other family. If they were to discharge him, such action would only create resentment and might push him further into the Dark Side.

All of this leaves him stuck between an asteroid and an Exogorth. Closing his eyes, he tries to meditate and clear his mind. Taking in a deep breath, Yoda then exhales and shivers. The emotions within him splash and war within him like a tsunami. All of them threaten to wash over and consume him, but the Jedi Master does not let him overcome himself.

He takes a few more deep breaths. Each time he does, he reaches into himself to touch his emotions. Rather than tamp them out, he focuses on calming them, understanding their worries, and making steps on how to combat them. He promises to settle them later, but it is an old trick that his friend, Oogway, showed him.

When he opens his eyes, the Grand Master lets out a smile and nods to himself, getting some ideas of who might train Anakin.

Later that day, Yoda summons the youngling before him.

Yoda: Trouble, you have been having with the Jedi Order, hmmm?

Anakin (young): It has been a difficult adjustment for me. The Jedi is just so different from anything I’m used to.

Yoda: Worry not, young one. Understand, I do. Worried about this, I was. It is for one to become a Jedi, even when prepared. For someone like you, unaccustomed to our ways, a great issue is this. Yet ask you, I must. Dream of becoming a Jedi, you do?

Anakin (young): I have always wanted to help people and if the Jedi is the best way-

Yoda: Not what I was asking you, that is. To help people and to be a Jedi, those are different. Not tricking you, I am, but know the truth I must. The path of a Jedi, reserved only for those who truly wish to walk that path, it is. If not, well, other paths there might be for you.

Yoda: Understand this, I do. A friend I know helps train you; he shall if you are willing.

Anakin (young): Another path…yes, Master Yoda. I accept.

Yoda smiles and places a hand on the boy, and promises to make the arrangements for him.

Later, a ship is prepared for Anakin that takes him to a small planet in the Outer Rim. It takes him to a lush valley that is guarded by a small temple. Inside, there is a large turtle waiting for him and leaning on his staff.

His movements are slow, but every gesture radiates wisdom. His presence is remarkably calming, and Anakin finds his worries slipping away just looking at him. When Yoda and Anakin step down, the two bow before him.

Oogway: Welcome, my friend. Master Yoda, it has been too long. So this is the young Jedi you are speaking of.

Yoda: Indeed, young Skywalker, this is. Here to learn from you, he is.

Anakin (young): Greetings, Master Oogway. I am looking forward to learning from you.

Oogway: Just as I am from you, young Skywalker.

The two share a bow, and Yoda sees them acquainted. He offers them both a smile and begins to depart, leaving them alone.
