Born in South Africa to Chinese parents, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong studied medicine before moving to the U.S., where he became a transplant surgeon and a researcher for NASA. Then he invented the cancer drug Abraxane, which put him on the path to becoming a billionaire. In 2018, he bought the Los Angeles Times. But he’s still very much in the biotech world and is currently working to develop a new form of the COVID-19 vaccine. He speaks about all this with Walter Isaacson.
Originally aired on June 9, 2021.
