Vocalists Whitney James, Hilary Gardner and Michelle Walker met for the first time at the hospital bedside of dear friend, jazz pianist, Joshua Wolff. He had just been diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer, and would have just one week to live.
Two months later, on July 14/15, 2013, a dozen close friends and colleagues from around the country gathered in Pinehurst, NC to launch the Pinehurst Jazz Festival in celebration of Joshua's memory. Whitney, Hilary and Michelle joined forces for the first time ever, billed as The Three Jazz Divas to sold-out audiences.
The 2nd Annual Pinehurst Jazz Festival will take place in July 2014. Before then, Michelle Walker returns to NC for concerts in Nov. 2013, and "The Three Divas" return as well in March 2014 to perform and release their debut album as an ensemble.
