The connective tissue disorder that we commonly talk about is Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. “Hypermobility” doesn’t just refer to flexible joints. It refers to the connective tissues in the body being different than the average person’s. We have connective tissues in every system of the body, hence why people with connective tissue issues may experience a myriad of symptoms outside of just joint laxity and joint pain. The amount of “hypermobility” varies greatly from person to person. It truly is a broad spectrum regarding how it impacts various people. There is also a continuum with hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD) and hEDS and one is not more severe than the other generally speaking.
Many of the things showcased in this video can be present without having a connective tissue disorder. There are dozens of these “co-occurring issues” that, when put together, may lead someone to suspect that they have a connective tissue disorder. To receive a diagnosis, you would need to seek a specialist who is confident in EDS or HSD - like a geneticist.
