In preparation for National Disability Voting Rights Week (September 9-13), OACB hosted a specialized training for county board SSAs on September 6 called "Uplift Every Voice: Supporting People with Disabilities in the Voting Process."
Voting is a powerful way for citizens to shape their government, but for people with developmental disabilities, it requires more planning and support.
Facilitated by Jennifer Kucera (Chair, Ohio Olmstead Task Force), Diana Mairose (Hamilton DD Advocate Advisor and Project STIR Trainer), Jen Miller (Executive Director, League of Women Voters of Ohio, and Collin Marozzi (Deputy Policy Director, ACLU of Ohio), this training addresses:
Registering to vote before the October 7 deadline
Understanding voting rights
Requesting and submitting absentee ballots; and/or
Travel to the polls on Election Day (November 5).
In addition, Jennifer Kucera will discuss a recent federal court ruling that struck down parts of an Ohio voting law, making it easier for people with disabilities to vote absentee.
By watching, you can help ensure that people with disabilities are able to exercise their fundamental right to vote, contributing to a more inclusive and representative democracy. Don't miss this opportunity to make a difference! One hour of continuing education credit was made available for participating SSAs and Superintendents.
