Here's an original composition of mine, composed for Mechelen's St. Rumbold's carillon on commission from the Mechelen carillon school in 2022. Centennial Chimes is one of twelve commissions from the school on the anniversary of their founding in 1922. The score appears in their Jubileumboek published in 2022.
Program note:
Centennial Chimes celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the Royal Carillon School “Jef Denyn”. As the carillon originated from the chimes of the sixteenth century, I chose to center the composition around short chiming melodies. But unlike the earliest chimes, the melodies in Centennial Chimes develop rhythmically and harmonically in ways befitting a concert instrument. It was Jef Denyn, after all, who pioneered the carillon as a true concert instrument at the beginning of the twentieth century.
