Barad-dûr | The Fortress of Sauron

Following the example of Tolkien's incredible writing style where we experience the story from the perspective of the characters, I would like to present you a new project - Secrets of the Palantír, the series about the mysteries, curiosities, and all things Middle-earthish!
The idea is to find out answers to all interesting questions from Tolkien's abundant world through Palantíri's visions. Today's video covers the creation and early history of the Dark Tower:
Barad-dûr or the Dark Fortress was the Dark Lord Sauron's central stronghold in Mordor, serving as his base in Middle-earth during the Second and late Third Age.
The construction of the tower began around the year 1000 of the Second Age and took six hundred years to complete. It was the greatest fortress built since the fall of Angband during the War of Wrath.

Barad-dûr was besieged for seven years by the Last Alliance of Elves and Men during the late Second Age and was leveled after the defeat of Sauron.
At the end of the long Siege of Barad-dûr, Gil-galad and Elendil fought Sauron and cast him down, but were both slain as well, and Elendil's sword Narsil was broken when he fell. Isildur used the broken sword to cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand. However, Isildur chose not to destroy the Ring at Mount Doom and was eventually betrayed by the Ring in the Disaster of the Gladden Fields where he was slain by Orcs.

But since the Tower was created using the power of the One Ring, its foundations could not be destroyed while the Ring still existed. As Isildur failed to destroy the Ring, the tower was eventually rebuilt when Sauron returned to Mordor thousands of years later in the Third Age...
