Bruce Wayne/Batman and Chase Meridian | Far Away

With Joel Schumacher taking the reins over for 1995’s BATMAN FOREVER, the considerably potent romantic and sexual spin was given to Batman’s connection with fiery new love interest, Dr. Chase Meridian. Leaning into the fun and whimsy of fantasy and the sensibilities of comics, Nicole Kidman’s portrayal is given a gorgeous and unforgettable portrait and demeanor...visually, she looks spectacular.

But I wanted to take what many might consider a fairly superficial relationship as portrayed and examine it more thoughtfully. Personally, I think the idea of Bruce Wayne finding love with a psychologist...and exploring that territory of Chase developing in her own right by way of her evolving relationships with both Bruce and Batman, never suspecting they’re one and the same...is a very novel idea.

Between that potential and Val and Nicole’s undeniable chemistry, it makes for one of the more fun and exuberant attempts to give Batman a romance and while it may not hold up to the dynamic nature of a Catwoman or Wonder Woman, it’s refreshing once in a while to see a superhero embrace their humanity by being engaged in a more grounded, ordinary person.
