In the heart of Devon countryside, the main house at Shilstone is framed by beautiful garden terraces, 500 acres of farmland and 10-15 acres of gardens.
This lovingly restored, historic property is the result of Sebastian Fenwick’s passion for architecture, antiques, pictures and landscape. The landscape is very important to Sebastian because it includes very interesting 17th century gardens which were key to what he wanted to renew. The rebuilding has been made possible by a team of loyal contractors who have put their heart and soul into Shilstone’s building work for 20 years now.

Rolling country and fantastic views made way for the ideal wedding venue to grow. Now hosting 50 weddings a year, the grounds have to be immaculate for the guests’ memorable day. Sebastian explains that when running a wedding business, everything has to look perfect. Bold stripes on the main lawns, manicured gardens and paths throughout the property must be kept just right in order to charge the best price for a wedding. Sebastian will not accept any disappointments when it comes to his business and that is why he relies on Ventrac for maintaining this historic land.

The 500 acres that make up Shilstone is all moderately steep country which makes it look so attractive and in the same way, difficult to maintain. Throughout the years they have tried grazing the steep slopes and fields and it just did not provide a good enough finish.
Sebastian discovered Ventrac with the help of his son and was so thoroughly impressed with how it handled his property, he purchased his Ventrac on the spot.

Sebastian has curated extensive gardens now and thanks to his Ventrac, the gardens can be much bigger because they are easier to maintain.
