载营魄抱一,能无离乎?
专气致柔,能如婴儿乎?
涤除玄览,能无疵乎?
爱国治民,能无为乎?
天门开阖,能为雌乎?
明白四达,能无知乎?
生之畜之,生而不有,为而不恃,长而不宰,是谓玄德。
Translation:
Can the soul and the body be united and never separated?
Can one gather one's vital energy to achieve softness, like a newborn infant?
Can one wash away the dust of thought and make one's heart as broad as a mirror without a speck of dust?
Can one love the people and govern the country according to the principles of the Tao, and maintain the state of 无为?
Can one open and close one's mouth and nose naturally, breathe in and out, and remain calm and still?
Can one knows everything but not to manipulate others or use cunning?
Nurturing all things without claiming them as one's own, establishing outstanding merits for the world without boasting of them, nourishing all things without asserting dominance—this is the highest form of “Te.”

This ‘one’ refers to the original state of being when you first entered the world—the state of an infant.

One of the practices of Daoist cultivation is called “embracing the primordial and preserving the one.”
It involves cultivating oneself to achieve longevity.
In infancy, humans possess tremendous power, but as one grows up, one inevitably comes into contact with the external environment.
In the face of the chaotic external environment, those who can maintain a broad mind and a pure heart are few and far between.
Those who understand the principles of the world but do not use them recklessly or manipulate others are even rarer.
Those who rise to the highest positions, become rulers of a nation, yet remain tranquil and unassuming, not disrupting the normal lives of the people, allowing people to live naturally according to their own circumstances—such individuals are nearly nonexistent.
To nurture all things without claiming them as one's own, to establish outstanding merits for the world without boasting of one's achievements, to nourish all things without assuming a dominant position—this is the highest form of “Te.”
