Draycott is a small rural village nestled within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, not far from Northleach and Cirencester. The name “Draycott” comes from Old English, “dræg-cot”, meaning “farm by a slope or drag.” It reflects the area’s ancient agricultural roots, as this part of Gloucestershire has been settled since Saxon times.

The village was first recorded in medieval documents and remained a traditional farming community for centuries, with stone-built cottages and barns typical of the Cotswolds’ golden limestone architecture. Many of these historic homes still stand today, lining quiet country lanes and surrounded by rolling fields where sheep and horses graze.

Draycott’s landscape connects to old drovers’ routes and footpaths that once linked nearby market towns like Northleach and Cheltenham.
