New Secret Weapon, Live at The Button Factory, February 2021

New Secret weapon are an alternative rock outfit, with what they have called 'slightly prog' leanings. Formed in the aftermath of KnockanStockan Independent Music Festival in 2007, they quickly rose to local notoriety in Ireland, regularly captivating Dublin audiences with their then largely improvisational and psychedelic guerrilla style shows. In 2012, they finally hit the studio to record their eagerly awaited debut album, which was released in 2014.

The album was described by Hot Press’s Edwin McFee as “wildly imaginative and full of occasionally unhinged, face-melting riffs and head-cracking time-changes.” Since then, they’ve been on a different kind of roller-coaster. Among the highlights was working with the great producer Steve Albini – famed for his work with the likes of Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Joanna Newsom, The Stooges and Manic Street Preachers. As a live band, they’re back – as this Button Factory gig shows – with a vengeance.
