I'm embarrassed to admit that I had almost no idea what kind of country Armenia was...

In fact, Armenia was the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as its state religion. Although it's a small country, about one-thirteenth the size of Japan, it's home to several cathedrals and monasteries of historical importance that have been designated World Heritage Sites.

This time, I'll be traveling from the capital, Yerevan, to the northern Lori region, and sharing my experiences hiking around two World Heritage Sites near the town of Alaverdi.

These two World Heritage Sites have an incredible 1,000 years of history: Sanahin Monastery and Haghpat Monastery.

Both were attacked by the Mongol Empire throughout history, but they never were completely destroyed and have continued to exist here ever since.

You'll be left breathless by their majestic appearance, which has remained virtually unchanged for the past 1,000 years!

During the hike, keep an eye out for the beauty of the Lori region's villages, visible from afar.

Lori is close to the Georgian border. After finishing the hike, I'll head back to Georgia.
