Pride For Odisha: Shirish Murmu Appointed As RBI Deputy Governor

It’s a proud moment for Odisha! After Girish Chandra Murmu, who served as CAG of India and the former Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, his brother Shirish Chandra Murmu has now been appointed as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Shirish Murmu, currently an Executive Director at RBI, will officially assume charge on October 9, 2025, for a tenure of three years, following the retirement of Deputy Governor Rajeswar Rao on October 8.

Hailing from Betnoti in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, Shirish’s appointment has brought immense pride to the state. Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated him, calling it an honor for Odisha to have another Odia in such a prestigious national role after former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das.
