In 2011 Kwaxsistalla, Clan Chief Adam Dick, was recognized as a Honouree for the Ecotrust Indigenous Leadership Award for his outstanding contributions to research and education and keeping the culture alive. He gave an acceptance speech in Kwa'kwala in Portland Oregon to the National Congress of American Indians and Ecotrust International. His speech received a thunderous standing ovation, despite only one person in the audience understood his message. The key message he relayed was..." thank you for honouring me today, for when you honour me...you honour my teachers, my ancestors before me..."
