In this video, we continue to explore Ichimatsu pattern in Nerikomi.
Using leftover slabs from a previous pattern, we make two slightly different basic elements using six colours and repeat them to see how patterns emerge. As the repetition continues, the eye may read diagonal movement, or alternatively recognise vertical and horizontal lines.
This pattern highlights how colour choice can change the way we perceive a pattern, and how our brains naturally try to recognise order and continuity within repetition.
We hope you enjoy observing this process and find it helpful as you explore future patterns.
