Mining sector: Poland seeks Uganda’s critical minerals

Uganda and Poland have entered a new phase of cooperation in the mining sector, with the two governments committing to begin joint mineral exploration, support research and technology development, and pursue potential investment. The commitments were sealed at the Polish–Ugandan Mining Conference in Kampala, where Polish officials expressed strong interest in partnering with Uganda’s fast-growing mineral industry. However, with the presidential ban on exporting raw minerals still in force, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Irene Batebe, said the partnership will be anchored on value addition and industrialisation — ensuring that minerals are processed in Uganda before leaving the country.
