Tony Williamson and friends talk about and play some great vintage instruments. Charlie Cushman on banjo, Patrick Sauber on guitar and Ron Shuffler on bass.
The first banjo Charlie plays is a 1936 Gibson Style 4 archtop FON 276-18. It has unique resonator purfling Charlie explains and it has French straight grain walnut neck, which surprises Tony who has owned this banjo since 1971. They then all play Red River Valley together.
Patrick plays a 1937 Martin D-18 and they launch in to Beaumont Rag.
Ron Shuffler talks about his 1937 Kay Concert Bass followed by them playing Foggy Mountain Special. Tony then brings out a February 1924 Loar and explains about its slightly darker tone than the '23s. Bluegrass Breakdown is then played by all. Part 2 of this session I've also posted here on YouTube.
