African Dwarf Frog Care Guide

African dwarf frogs are a small aquatic frog that only get to be 2 to 3 inches when they reach adulthood. These frogs are very social, so you should keep at least 2 in a tank. They can live on average 5 years or longer.

Tank Set Up

The African dwarf frog is an air breather, so they do need a shallow tank, a 5 to 10 gallon tank with a low flow filter works well for these frogs. Sponge filters and under the gravel filters work great for them, but if you have a powerful filter and cannot adjust the flow rate you can baffle the filter using filter floss or a filter sponge. These guys can potentially jump out of the tank, so you will also want to make sure you have a good fitting lid on your tank.

Tank Décor

The African dwarf frog can easily injure themselves, so you want to use a smooth substrate and make sure all ornaments are free from sharp edges. These frogs are shy so giving them lots of hiding places in the way of ornaments, live plants, or silk plants, can make them feel more secure.

Diet

High protein aquatic frog pellets are great for the dwarf frogs as well as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, bloodworms, and tubifex worms. Live tubifex worms can potentially care parasites. If feeding frozen or freeze dried foods be sure to properly prepare them before feeding.
