Defoliation of My Australian Umbrella Tree, The Bonsai Zone, Sept 2025

My Australian Umbrella tree (Heptapleurum actinophyllum) may be a possible show tree this fall, so today I'm defoliating it a month before the first show in hopes of getting smaller leaves.
Heptapleurum actinophyllum is a tree in the family Araliaceae. It is native to tropical rainforests and gallery forests in northern and northeastern Queensland coasts and the Northern Territory of Australia, as well as New Guinea and Java.
