The J-35, built only between 1936 and 1942, is one of the rarer vintage acoustics. But there are tremendous differences between early and later J-35s; this 2 tone bar version from 1941 sounds a lot different from the 3 tone bar models that proceeded it. Apart from differences in the number of tone-bar braces below the bridge plate, the 1941 models are lighter built overall - with smaller scalloped top braces, markedly less stiff back bracing, light necks, and a wider X-brace angle. All of this makes this J-35 one of the most responsive and warm Gibsons of that period.
This is a really versatile guitar - and a go-to for us when wanting a sublime experience. Whether you are a fingerstyle player, strummer/singer or flat picker, this guitar responds how you would want it to - everything you want from a vintage pre-war Gibson flat top.
Spruce top with scalloped bracing and a well-pronounced top arch, mahogany back, and sides. Round-profile neck with French heel and rosewood fingerboard. Silkscreened Gibson headstock logo, and original Kluson tuning machine. Apart from a cleanly glued and cleated center seam crack, the guitar is crack-free and all original.
The guitar's neck has been reset -- pretty much invisible work. The frets are original.
