This is a practice to bring compassion to past traumatic or painful experiences. This is a useful meditation if we experience shame or a strong internal critic, have painful memories that are causing current difficulties, or we find it difficult to be self-compassionate.
It is useful to work with a therapist if we are experiencing intense difficulties from our psychological histories, this practice can support that work. We are using ideas from Compassion Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in this practice. These ideas are found in many schools of therapy and meditative practice.
