Nissan Leaf 2020 review

Tom White reviews the famous-in-Europe second-generation Nissan Leaf electric hatchback at its Australian Launch in Melbourne, with specs, energy consumption and performance figures.

If we told you, even just a few years ago, that one of Nissan’s most promising cars, and one it hangs much of its future on, was an all-electric hatchback, you probably wouldn’t have believed us.

But here we are at the Australian launch of the second-generation Leaf, which has been wildly successful in Europe. Is it set to change the landscape of electric motoring in Australia? Watch on to find out.

We explain the main questions you’ll have about electric motoring. How much range does it have, how can you charge it, and how is it different from its petrol-powered counterparts? We’ll also explore charging infrastructure and plug-standards from your wall-outlet to your CHAdeMO, as well as cover a little on innovative features the Leaf offers to take you “off-the-grid” in the near future.

Of course, we’ll cover off how much you really get for the Leaf’s tall $50k asking price, including its safety features from AEB, to active cruise control, to Nissan’s ‘Around View Monitor’ 360-degree parking suite.

The Leaf is also the first Nissan in Australia to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support thanks to a new 8.0-inch multimedia touchscreen.
