Not the best run by any stretch of the imagination, but I got gold.
When I was trying to beat it a few weeks ago, I turned a couple of 1:56s and could post 1:57s all day on decent tires... but then would spin in the first turn after pit stops and stuff it in the wall... and proceed to rage quit. I nearly choked the win away (including multiple spins late and totally missing my mark on the front stretch -- once a sign board too late... and then a sign board too early shortly after that). You gotta stay focused. :)
Takeaways...
1 - despite what people say, you don't need to consistently turn 1:56s and 1:57s to win. I turned a handful of 1:57s, but most of my laps were 1:58s and 1:59s. The funny thing is, when I was "on a roll" a week or so ago, I would turn a 2:02 first lap and could turn some 1:56s (including the "fastest lap")... but then I'd bin it almost immediately after the first pit stop and quit. LOL.
2 - which leads me to this... your tires will be COOOOOLD after the pit stops. Scrub them as you're coming off pit road... and take it EASY in the first few turns. Get some heat in those bad boys.
3 - don't look at the clock. Don't look at gaps.
4 - do as I say, not as I do, but... smooth on the inputs going quickly from brake to gas / vice-versa. Jumping from one to the other too quickly only increases tire wear and makes you prone to unsettle your car or take a bad line.
Props to @MistahMCA -- his tutorial here was the best one I've seen.
• Gran Turismo 7 v1.25 - 1 Hour of Lago Magg...
I used the Mazda RX Vision that I got for pre-ordering the game. I used a two pit stop strategy (at the end of 10 and at the end of 20) on Racing Medium tires. I was using an automatic transmission and wasn't doing any sort of fuel saving. Just filled it to 10.1 laps' worth of fuel on each pit stop.
