When you are planishing anything that comes with an attached other half like a vambrace, greave or back and breastplates, only planish one piece at a time or you will alter the shape of both and run the risk of confusing yourself.
You can do this by also drawing the pieces on the some card and making sure the lines line up afterwards. But after a fitting I prefer to make sure that the pieces fit together rather than trust to my paper drawing - a personal choice.
