AMISOM troops have today successfully entered the key town of Kismayo in Somalia. A statement released by AMISOM spokesperson called for the people of Kismayo to remain calm as AMISOM's intent was to liberate them and bring them a peace, stability and security. AMISOM force commander Lt-Gen Andrew Gutti urged all fighters remaining in Kismayo to lay down their arms saying in recent days and weeks, a number of them had contacted AMISOM indicating their wish to cease fighting and they were assured of their safety if they gave themselves up peacefully to the AMISOM forces.
