First Gyrocopter Flight Oshkosh 2022 – Cavalon 915iS by AutoGyro

After trying the Air Cam at Oshkosh 2018, Tigre gets to try the Cavalon 915 iS gyroplane.

Cierva Aero of Petaluma, CA had a booth at the light sport aircraft section at Oshkosh 2022. They were offering demo rides in the AutoGyro Cavalon 915 iS, a Rotax powered 141 horsepower gyrocopter that seats two.

The Catalan offers a blend of airplane and helicopter. The rotor acts as the wing with the propeller creating thrust. By having a rotorblade pilots are given agility and landing capabilites similar to a helicopter. Since the rotor blade is autorotating, it can’t offer vertical takeoffs or landings, but depending on winds the gyroplane can land in spaces the size of a tennis court with skilled operation.

While the ride was short (about 15 minutes) I could definitely see the fun in learning to fly one.
