Nampa, Idaho is the largest city in Canyon County and the 3rd most populous in the state, home to about 100,200 residents (2020). Nestled 20 miles west of Boise in the Treasure Valley, its name comes from a Shoshoni word meaning “foot” or “moccasin.” Founded along the Oregon Short Line Railroad in the 1880s, Nampa grew into a major rail hub. Its historic downtown features the iconic Department Store building from 1910, part of the Nampa Historic District. Today, the city blends rich heritage—like the Snake River Stampede rodeo and Ford Idaho Center events—with growing cultural and educational life, anchored by College of Western Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University.
