Gottfried Finger - Sonata a tre Op.4 N°1

Finger nacque ad Olomouc in Moravia e vi lavorò nel famoso ensemble del Principe-Vescovo Karl Liechtenstein-Kastelcorno, nel cui archivio sono conservate le sue prime composizioni.
Era probabilmente a Monaco di Baviera nel 1682 e potrebbe essere arrivato a Londra già nel 1685, dove ebbe un posto nella nuova cappella cattolica di Giacomo II nel 1687.
Quando Giacomo II andò in esilio nel 1688, Finger rimase a Londra dove iniziò una carriera di successo e divenne una figura centrale nella vita musicale.
Pubblicò diverse raccolte popolari destinate al crescente mercato della musica amatoriale, tra cui la prima serie di sonate per strumento solista e basso continuo mai pubblicate in Inghilterra (1690).
Partecipò ad un concorso a Londra per la realizzazione di un'opera dal titolo "The Judgement of Paris" dove però si classificò solo al quarto posto.
Tornò quindi in Germania dove ricoprì cariche in diverse città importanti, tra cui Breslau (Wroclaw), Berlino, Heidelberg, Dusseldorf e Mannhiem; in quest'ultimo gettò le basi per l'orchestra successivamente resa famosa da Stamitz.
Come strumentista fu un ottimo virtuoso di viola da gamba, per cui lasciò diverse composizioni.

Finger was born in Olomouc in Moravia and worked there in the famous ensemble of Prince-Bishop Karl Liechtenstein-Kastelcorno, in whose archive his first compositions are kept.
He was probably in Munich in 1682 and could have arrived in London as early as 1685, where he had a place in the new Catholic chapel of James II in 1687.
When James II went into exile in 1688, Finger remained in London where he began a successful career and became a central figure in the musical life.
He published several popular collections for the growing amateur music market, including the first series of sonatas for solo instrument and basso continuo ever published in England (1690).
He took part in a competition in London for the creation of an opera entitled "The Judgment of Paris" where, however, he ranked only in fourth place.
He then returned to Germany where he held offices in several important cities, including Breslau (Wroclaw), Berlin, Heidelberg, Dusseldorf and Mannhiem; in the latter he laid the foundations for the orchestra subsequently made famous by Stamitz.
As an instrumentalist he was an excellent viola da gamba virtuoso, so he left several compositions.
