According to legend, Manakamana Devi is believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Bhagwati, the Hindu goddess of power and wish-fulfillment. The word “Manakamana” comes from two Nepali words: “Mana” (heart) and “Kamana” (wish) meaning “the goddess who fulfills your wishes.”

It is said that during the 17th century, King Ram Shah of Gorkha had a queen who possessed divine powers. One day, when the king discovered her spiritual identity, he suddenly died. After his cremation, the queen also disappeared, and a stone appeared at that spot which later became the site of the Manakamana Temple. Devotees believe that anyone who worships here with a pure heart will have their wishes fulfilled. 🙏
